Question 97 E320 P0455 code

Hi, I've got a 1997 E320 and the check engine light comes on and i check the codes and it says that it's code P0455, which means a large leak in the evap system. At first i thought it might be the gas cap because when ever i'd be near my gas door i'd smell gas fumes. I went and replaced the gas cap and that didn't solve my problem, now next to the gas cap inside the gas door is a little hole with a rubber ring around it that leaks fuel out of it??? I don't know where that line leads to or if that could be my problem. Right now i'm waiting for a new vaccum pump to come in to test the purge line that goes from the Purge Control Valve to my Charcoal Canister. Does anyone know anything about what it might be with fuel leaking out on to the side of the car??? Thanks

I got the vaccum pump and i tested the purge line that goes from my purge control valve to my charcoal canister and it's not holding a vaccum. I ordered the part on friday but unfortunatley it has to come from germany the local dealer told me anyway. The other thing i wanted to make known was that yesterday in the car it stunk horribly of gas fumes, i don't know if that could be because i've got the line disconnected at the charcoal canister or what. I've never had gas fumes in the cabin and i don't know how or why they're getting there now, but again today it was fine??? I don't get it. Please help.

Hi,
I am curious about how you fixed this problem. Also did you disconect the line at the canister before you applied pressure to it. I am having the same problem and I need to check everything before I make a decision.
Thanks for your help.
