My 1991 420SEL makes a barely noticeable sound when steering at low speeds, it sounds like a set of new tires on a polished cement floor but very muffled. Any thoughts?

BTW I just finished fixing the clock...very satisfying

fred, ...is the pump seals still okay ? Check if it's leaking...check and make sure the the fluid level is okay. check if the color is still clear, ..if not, try to drain and flush it. If it is leaking a little bit, ..use a stop leak fluid and see if it will soften the seals ..Also, ..when was the last time you replace the filter ?

Might be the rubber around the steering pin in the firewall...If so, you need some vaseline to cure the problem.

greetingz,

fred, ...I don't know the specs when to replace this filter right of hand, ..however, try to remove and inspect it. Normally, ..due to heat, ..the adhesive tends to brake and make the filter leaks and will not perform as it was design to do. This item is also very cheap, ..nothing to loose.
