I have a 1963 220 SEb cabriolet with a column shift automatic transmission. Lately I am having a problem as the shifter binds when making manual selections, up or down, from positions 1 or 2. You have to treat it very gingerly to make a selection. I am not having a problem within the shift range of park, reverse, neutral or #3.In looking at the base of the shift rod from the engine compartment, where it enters the engine compartment, it appears to have considerable play. Does that column shift rod rest in a bearing that is worn out? If that is the problem, what does it take to correct the situation? Is that the problem? Has any other owner of this vintage model had the problem?
