Got ya! I have a 560 SEC that leaks rear suspension Hydraulic fluid. In a pinch what else can I use besides MB @$18 qt? It does not leak bad and one day I will fix it but can I use another brand?

BEER, to compare it to the size of the moon question, is exactly as expensive as it looks........Gilly
ps get the MB hydraulic oil and drink domestic mega-brew to compensate the cost. I recommend Miller Lite. Do they still make Falstaff or Red White and Blue? Remember "Generic Beer"?

Falstaff Lives!!!!

I just saw a 12-pack the other day for $3.99... And do you mean, Pabst Blue Ribbon? Same Price!

Frankly, I see little comparison between beer and "rear suspension Hydraulic fluid" (whyd'ja capitalize "hydraulic"?), unless you're talkin' about some of that East Indian, or Phillipine swill...

Personally, I prefer a good amber ale microbrew, but this was all covered in a previous thread in Open Discussion.

I also suggest an open and frank discussion without all of the nasty little tricks to get people who have no interest in hydraulic fluid you can't rent to respond to your thread. But I suppose it's kinda like I suggested to a garage band once, "the best name for you guys would be "free beer & naked girls", because with the music you play, that's the only way you'll ever get an audience"...

Nope, Red White and Blue. It was a cheap beer around these parts for quite a while. PBR has fallen out of favor around here as they figured out a way to do their pensioners out of their pension. I know the law allows stuff like that when they're facing bankruptcy and all that, but still sets kind of bad. I missed the beer post I guess.

Man you guys know your cheap beer. I'm amazed nobody recommended black label or rheingold. Now the question comes up, what kind of cheap hydraulic fluid can I feed my car? It can't be that special of a blend. My friend says he used a castrol hydraulic in his Jag. I know they have stuff at progressive or whatever at $9qt which is 1/2 off of MB. Where is Benzmac when you need him?

Still think it's best to use the MB stuff on this. If you can get an approved service products list, it will show other approved fluids for the system. I believe I have a current list at work, if I can remember, I will bring it home and list a few for you to try to find.......Gilly

This site is unbelievable sometimes. Nobody knows of an aftermarket suspension fluid even though they sell it here. Like this is the only place in the country that has it? Dealer gets $18qt. Here it is $7.50, which makes it cheaper and probably aftermarket. Does anyone know what brand they sell here?

Nick: I'm sorry I haven't remembered to bring home that approved product list yet. On your questions concerningFastlane and Parts shop, I couldn't find oil for the self-levelling system in Fastlane. Are you entering the part number into Part Shop and getting quoted a price? If so, I would say with almost 100% certainty that they gotta be selling you the MB stuff. I would email Mercedes Shop directly and ask them. Maybe the moderator doesn't forward this type of post to the appropriate people, I would ask directly, as that sounds like a purty good price. Actually, if they know it to be approved by MB, I would go for it even if it isn't straight from MB.

We have stocked the fluid under a MB number for a similar cheap price. The fluid can be sourced through Febi/Bilstein or Pentasin brand name. The same fluid is used on BMW and Audi systems, but there is more than one formula. We also stock a very similar fluid for Jaguars and RR that comes from Castrol. I think its the same as the Febi product that we buy under a MB number(don't have the number at home), but we stock both as I know of no printed standard.

Thanks Steve. As far as a printed "standard", it probably gets a little too technical, real hydraulic engineering stuff I'm sure. However, what one should do is at least make sure that the product is listed in the approved product list for the system. There is usually one in the owners packet, or else there is a couple pages of fiche in the shop SMS that details what is approved.
Thanks again
Gilly

I have looked in the WIS at the approved product list for a number of fluids and I don't think MB has any approved fluid other than their own for anything other than motor and gear oils and brake fluid.

I have looked specifically for the hydraulic fluid, the new P/S fluid, and the new trans fluid. I could just be missing it but I have found no help from MB in finding any of these fluids in anything but MB's numbers/brand.
