Blown fuse # 5 in 87 560 sel

The 25 amp fuse for #5 blows like trying to put a 12 volt bulb in a 110 volt socket.

From the fuse designation - USA ; back-up lamp, heating water valves, water pump, climate controll system, relay auxiliary fan term. 86, aut. transmision electics, blower motor inside temperture sensor, air conditioner compressor, electormagn. clutch/valve air injection.

With the air conditioner compressor unpluged it still blows- time to write the Mercedes forum and see if search turns up anything? -simular but not exactly.

Have muli-meter but not sure how or what to check next.

Having gone through all the wiring I could find under the hood and under the car - I could not find any obvious bare or damaged wire.

Try removing the RELAY for the air-injection pump clutch...at position "E" in the fuse box.

inspected the wires to the air-injection pump clutch and there is an in-line two prong plug and no damage is obvious- so I assume its in the clutch itself?

Air injection pump is a warm-up emission device...the clutch is MOST likely drawing excessive amperage...very common..just leave out the relay.
