1988 190E A/C Problems
Can any one tell me where the K9 relay is located in the car.
Also what do I have to do to get a ground to the compressor control relay when the A/C swt is pushed on the A/C control. I grounded the wire from the pressue swt to the compressor control and the compressor runs and I get cold air (40F). Am I correct in thinking that when the A/C button is pushed the electric fan in front of the rad should run at reduced speed and at full speed when the HI pressure swt is actuated by the freon. Well, I can answer the part about the fan speeds.
The fan in front of the rad does not come on simply because you press the AC button. When the refrigerant pressure reaches a certain level, the pressure switch on the drier turns the fans on low speed. Hi-speed is activated by a switch in the cylinder head when the engine temp reaches 100' C or so.

brewtoo is correct on the fan operation..
IF you select Defrost OR the "demist" button on the pushbutton unit the ground signal should be at the low pressure switch.....IF not then 1 or 3 possibilities exist. 1) the evaporator temp sensor is bad 2) the blue 2 pole temp sensor is bad 3) the pushbutton control unit is defective The K9 relay is in the fuse box..has a painted black top..located just behind the fuses in the middle.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the info but it raises more questions. 1. Where is the K8 relay and what does it do. 2. Where is the Blue 2 pole temp sensor and what does it do. 3. Why does my MB factory wiring dia for that car show the K9 relay coil being grounded by the push button unit to actuate it and thus turning on the fan in front of the rad, as it stands now the HP swt does turn both the front fan and engages the clutch on the engine fan. Is my wire dia wrong? Thanks Chuck |

old post, but there is no answer to the last question.
I hve a 92 300E 2.3 I'm working on, and can't get either the main fan or the aux fan to engage. I've shorted the a/c switch, no love. can anybody direct me to the controller for the two fans? THANKS!

I'll pull it up shortly.
I think it's a wiring problem, it looks like only one wire is connected to the EM clutch... car is too hot to inspect closely at the moment.
