My '90 300SE has an oil leak. Last week I was under the car and noticed the oil looked as though it was coming from what looked like a rubber hose that attatched to a pump like thing located above the alternator.
What is the pump thingie and is this hose a probable area for an oil leak? I tried to take it to my tech, but they are a man short and can't get to it. I'd appreciate any help.

You are probably talking about the AIR pump. The leak is probably from the upper timing cover/head gasket. The oil from this leak typically covers the AIR pump, its hoses, and the alternator.

Thanks Steve,
From what I have gathered from previous posts, this probably isn't a DIY job. I think my tech said it's about a 2.5 hr job. Does that sound right? if so, I think I'll let them handle it.
