on removing the water pump is there some trick to getting that bottom bolt out without removing the harmonic balancer? there is a cut out on the balancer but it's way too high. it's completely above the bolt's centerline. short of using an air saw removing the balancer is the only clean way.

any thoughts??
tks

I ended up cutting off the head and replacing the bolt with a stud and used a nut when I put the pump back on.

thanks dave for ur reply. that's exactly what i was thinking. so i feel confident now. i'm thinking of using 18-8 stainless and using studs in other locations of the pump too. the gasket looks like it may be a bit tricky to hold it in place. maybe a few other studs would help.

tks again

Using studs cant hurt. Use gasket grease to hold the gasket in place. Or use several studs and put the gasket on the block.
