1999 Slk230

Hi Guys
It's been a while since I've been on the forums....my SL hasn't been giving me any problems for the longest time so far...must say I'm very impressed .
But now, we just bought a SLK230 and my wife woke me up one morning because the alarm would go off and just wouldn't start. Both the original and spare key wont turn off the alarm and even with a new battery. I even went and replaced the car battery aswell. Basically the car won't start cuz the immobolizer will cut it off, the alarm goes off whenever you open the door, trunk or hood. and wne u disconnect the battery it would make a non stop humming sound, but now it doesnt do that anymore. However whenever you try connecting the battery in the alarm will just go off. I looked at the PSE Module in the trunk but couldn't find any water damage.....however the wires were very stick....could be from water previously getting at it. But its weird cuz its been sunny and starting everyday except all of a sudden that one day.
Any suggestions......I cant even move the car or plug the battery in without the alarm going off. I even removed fuse 9 so the alarm wouldnt go off, but the symptoms remain the same without the noise. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Take a good look in the TRUNK at the central locking PUMP. IT is the computer that controls the alarm & locking functions...the SLK"s have issues with water leaks in the trunk.

Hi M.B Doc

I took it out and even inspected it but it seem to be damaged by water. Do you think I should just replace this part since it couldnt possibly be anything else? Also how would I go about coding it...do you know?

Coding can only be done with a MB DAS laptop..every thing should work OK except the alarm until it is coded.

Fix the water leak OR modify the wiring so that water cant get into the pump again

Thanks a lot man, I'm going to leave the coding until my car goes for service then. Do you know any place that sells this part cheaper then the dealer price of $750?
But my main concern is......from my symptoms do you think it could be anything else besides this pump? its called a pse module right? or pse pump? or same thing?

PSE module failure is VERY common in these cars. And there's no cheaper alternative than the dealer.

It's a GOOD thing that SLK's have turned out to be pretty reliable...aside from the PSE...

Thanks
I'm still not convinced its the PSE module yet because it clicks when the lights flash and when u press the door lock button in the car you can hear it working through the module. Is the pse module also responsible for recognizing the buttons to unlock and lock the car on the key? cuz those buttons dont work. I took the module apart today and couldnt see any water damage anywhere?? Could there be anything else I could investigate before coming to a conclusion its the pse module? I'm just aboput to order it but am scared to spend 800 on the wrong part
