Synchromesh 240D manual
My first MB 81 240D sedan immaculate (for now) and I'm as tickled to find this forum as I am to be the proud new owner. Four spd. shifts fine 1 & 2 - 3 & 4 a little grind. Will engage but must wait for rpm's to drop to minimize grind noise. Suspect synchromesh gears. QUESTION is there one for each gear and are they adjustable or loose or worn? Down shift fine to 2nd @ higher rpm's and adjusted eccentric bolt on clutch so I'm eliminating clutch as problem.

it is unusual for the upper gears to give this type of trouble.
i suspect low lube level. check the level of your lube and replentish as necessary. if it is low then check your front and rear seals. good luck tom w

Thanks Tom. I haven't been under the car yet as I just quired it recently and busy replacing thermo and A/C leak (important in central Texas) but I know that their is old grease/oil under engine. Car sat untouched for 4 years.
