my dash "light-bulb-out" warning light (the yellow icon with bulb and exclamation point in the center) comes on after crusing around awhile....and then somestimes it dosent come on at all...I look around the car when the warning lamp is on and don't see any lights out at night...any advice? Check the small 'parking' bulbs in the main headlight assembly (the ones that come on at first turn headlamp switch) and rear license plate bulbs, they are the ones that have had me scratching my head wondering until I found they were gone.
They also seem to be bulbs which the filament can bounce around making and breaking the connection - again learnt from experience. May also be the connector plugs having been heated up and cooled down over many years just being old and brittle - again, experience - on my right hand side headlamp just taking apart the connector and cleaning up the contacts fixed an annoying and intermittent 'bulb out' warning.

Lead, remove the brake lamps and check for a flat spot (looks like the base was filed at an angle) on the base of each lamp. Replace any lamp with a flat spot ... be sure to use Osram Sylvania 21w lamps. Flat-spotted lamps still light, but trigger the "Exterior Lamp Failure" warning light on the dash.
