The computers on my SL600 are coded at the factory to the car vin numbers. Does that mean that they cannot be replaced with used ones from a junk yard. Or can the used ones be recoded.

I'm not sure about your car, but on my E class the computers are good for 40 starts before they are permanently married to the car. A junkyard computer would almost certainly have started the engine more than 40 times.

Can the computers get a divorce and re-marry someone else's car. Or do you have to pay alimoney to MBUSA and get new computers. Can they be recoded to another car using the Star Diagnostic system.

You dont mention what year vehicle you are talking about. Matt's is a 96 and to my knowledge everything he stated is correct.

1996 & later cars are VIN specific. Can't be used on another car w/o being "un-married" there are a few companies with that ability...

DAS lap-top doesn't have that ability.
