Display Defective

I’ve been getting the “Display Defective” for the past few times I start the rig. The strange thing is that when I put the car in drive the transmission kicks hard into gear, I loose the power steering; my check engine light stays on along with ESP, and parking brake!! Has any ones had a similar problem? I haven’t been able to find anything on this.

Thanks,

All of those items are computer controlled..you need to have the can scanned for problems.

It sounds like the engine CAN network is down. Like 'Doc says, have the car scanned for codes. I'll bet that one of the control modules on the network has failed, and took down the rest of them.

Thanks Guys! I have a scanner and I’ll pull the codes later on. I’ll post them when I get them.

Here is what I got.

0500 Vehicle speed signal
0600 CAN of ESP
0720 Read ETC fault memory
1605 CAN acceleration info for poor road recognition from ABS speed sensor

I hope it’s an easy fix that’s not too hard on the pocket book!

Funny you ask, I still haven’t done a thing. The codes have seemed to disappear I did some looking around and I think the culprit is the 13 pin connector on the tranny. I have the part but not the time.

Hopefully these will help.

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLAY ! BUT I READ MANY FORUMS BEFORE AND NO BODY KNOWS WHAT IS THE REAL PROBLEM ,I CHECKED THE CONNECTOR AND THERE IS JUST A VERY SMALL FLUID ON IT. I DONT HAVE A GOOD MECHANIC IN MY CITY.. THATS A PROBLEM..
I BOUGHT THIS MERCEDES FROM AUTO AUCTION WITH SMALL FRONT END DAMAGE..
IT WAS RUNS AND DRIVES JUST FINE.. BUT THERE WAS BROKEN RADIATOR.. AFTER I REPLAYS THE RADIATOR AND CHANGED THE ATF FLUID THE CAR WORKS GOOD 2 DAYS.
THEN I GOT LIMP MODE AND ALL CODES.. I CANT GO TO REPLAYS THE CONDUCTOR BECAUSE IM NOT SURE WHATS IS THE REAL PROBLEM WITH CAR...
I WILL BRING IT TO MY ELECTRIC MAN AND KEEP YOU POSTING AFTER THAT....

What kind of ATF fluid did you use? And how much did you pour in there? How did you check the level? You could have just over filled it and that may cause the limp mode to prevent damage to your transmission. You should read some of the posts on ATF fluid replacement.

Also did you unplug the 13 pin connector and look inside? If you see any fluid in there I’d say replace it.

Good luck

Tranny Electric Plug

'Is that the plug that "Goes Bad" and allows Tranny Fluid to "Wick Up" the cable harness into the Engine Control Computer,
Ruining IT ??

I'm not sure about running all the way up the cable but I have read that it does get in the plug and is an easy fix.

I BOUGHT THE *VALVOLINE MAXLIFE DEX/MERC* SINTETIC ATF FROM NAPA STORE AND THEY TOLD ME IT WORKS FOR ALL MERCEDES.
ALSO GOT NEW FILTER AND GASKET.
DRAIN OLD FLUID IT WAS DARK BUT NO BURN,ABOUT 3 LITERS.
AND PUT THE NEW ATF ABOUT 4 LITERS.. THATS PROBABLY WAS BAD ..I DID NOT KNOW HOW MATH FLUID WAS THERE BECAUSE THE RADIATOR WAS DAMAGED AND FLUID WAS DRAINED FROM TRANSMISSION.
NOW I GOT
Mercedes 722.6 Transmission Fluid Dipstick Repair Tool
AND MADE NORMAL LEVEL.
THE CONNECTOR WAS ALMOST CLEAN NO FLUID .
BUT STEEL STAYING IN LIMP MODE..
MY ELECTRIC MAN SAYS IT PROBABLY ABS COMPUTER PROBLEM. BECAUSE MY BRAKE LIGHT ABS ASP BAS BRAKE PEDS AND CHECK ENGINE STAY ON.
THIS ONLY WAY TO TOWING THE CAR TO ELECTRIC SHOP AND FINED OUT THE REAL PROBLEM. ITS ABOUT 280 MILES FROM MY HOME...

I don’t know; you should read some of the posts regarding the limp mode and tranny troubleshooting.
