190E Fuel Pump, Fuel Filter problem?
I just got stranded 2 miles from home. My 190E had a little trouble starting, idled rough, sputtered, gagged, and stalled. Further attempts yielded the same results. Does this seem to be a fuel filter, fuel pump problem? Any direction would be greatly appreciated.
thanks, John |

Could be, and don't forget pressure regulator and leaks as part of the loop. Could also be spark, though. If you crank it a bit without starting, then quickly remove and sniff a spark plug, a gas odor indicates ignition issues, fuel system likely ok.

Most of the time the problem is the Klima relay (marked 4yzl), small black box behind the battery - the one close to the fire wall that controls fuel pump. It happened to my '85 190E 2.3. No problem after I changed it.

Are you sure the klima relay controls the fuel pump? I am pretty sure it is the relay in front of the klima relay. They look the same however have different pin configurations. I am 99% sure that the klima relay only has to do with climate control and compressor.
