high aux fan speed
Is it bad to have the aux fan on high all the time? I have found that it is the only way to combat rising a/c vent temps that otherwise creep up pretty high with just low fan on. by the time the engine temp gets high enough to kick on high fan, I'm already sweating and cursing.

ON a 420SEL that has been converted to R134a running that aux fan at a higher speed is required to keep the condenser cool.
You might also look between the condenser & radiator for debris & pressure wash if needed. Also make sure that the fresh air vacuum elements are completely closing off the outside air.

It is still an r-12 car. I have cleaned the condenser with hvac condenser cleaner and it looks as though the area is clean. I have also verified that
the recirculation doors do shut, even though I think they still draw some outside air in.

Between the radiator & condenser is where debris collects.

What's the best way to clean in there without removing the condenser?

It's tough to do without removing the condenser. However, removing that condenser is very easy, should take 20 minutes tops.

Then just remove the radiator, that way you will have access to the back of the condenser.

On my 300SE I can see between the condenser and radiator (from the top). Is it the same on the 420?

no. it is hugging the radiator. I pulled the aux fan today to clean behind it and i also tested the fan with the engine off to see how much air it pushed through the radiator and it happened to push enough air to slowly turn the radiator fan so im hoping to forget about pulling the radiator or condensor.
