Sorry to post this again:

The arm to my '24 inch mono wiper blade ('90 300E 124 body) extended out suddenly the
other day so I removed the assembly, greased up the arm and the gears
and whatnot and put it back in.

It bobs and weaves just like normal but with a '2 longer extension
that normal which means my blade hits my windshield molding. Other
than that, it looks and runs just fine (transmission and motor) I
suppose it slipped a gear or something.

Me being mr clever wants to put in a '22 inch blade to solve the
problem.

My question is, did any '90 year Mercedes model use a '22 inch blade
or below such as the 190 class or the 300 SL coupe? And if so,
will the blade fit on my 300E wiper arm?

This seems like an unusual way around this problem, but I'm lazy and DO NOT feel like taking out that assembly again to replace it! =)

Thanks in advance

You will have to change the blade and arm if you are going to go to 22". I would get the Bosch wipers (sold in most auto stores). They come with the universal connections, so installation is a snap.

I am concerned that you are doing a "Band-Aid" sort of fix, but I guess you will attack the problem at a later time.

Your biggest concern should be that even though the wiper will clear the top of the windshield, you will lose a great deal of wiping radius when the wiper travels to either side of the windshield...that is where your visibility is most crucial.

Thanks for the reply G-Benz. If indeed my vision is impaired by the limited coverage of the '22, then I'll go ahead and replace the assembly. (found one for $65 used on the net)

About that new arm I'll need, does Bosch sell that also? Is it just a shorter arm than the '24 inch blade arm?

Regards,

Paul

I will clarify what I mean by "arm".

I am assuming you are not referring to the actual wiper arm (that tapers to a "hook" at the tip) that is permanently attached to the motor assembly.

I am referring to the wiper blade "arm" that contains the blade. It is sold as a complete assembly, so the blade and arm are the same 22" length. It even has a plastic "wing" that assists with keeping the blade firmly against the windshield during those windy torrential rainstorms. Don't fret...the wing is subtle, not like those tacky neon wiper arms we used to see in the 80's.

All my MBs have the Bosch arm and blade assemblies, and I have been happy with the results.

Thanks again for your reply G-Benz.

Yeah I saw that Bosch arm in an auto parts store yesterday. However, it didn't look compatible (where it snaps on to the hook). Therefore I didn't buy it.

I was comparing my Mercedes arm to the Bosch arm is probably why it looked like it wasn't compatible.

Does that Bosch arm fit any Mercedes-style mono wiper "hook".

Regards,

Paul

There about four or five types of wiper connectors used by ALL of the vehicles manufactured in the world. So, most wiper manufacturers, (wanting you to purchase THEIR brand of wiper), sell a generic wiper arm. Included with the arm is a variety of "connectors", each designed to attach to their wiper and at least one of them is compatible to the "hook" style arm.

By the way, the hook style is not unique to the "mono-arm" style. My other MBs (and my Bug) all have the same type.

Domestic cars seem to come with the "locking spade type", as in my Chrysler Conquest, which by the way, also is fitted with the same Bosch wipers.

My 93 300E also has the mono wiper arm, and the fit is perfect.
