Importing Euro-spec car from CANADA to the US

Yes, there are many similarly-worded threads on this, but NONE has yet answered my question. I am very interested in purchasing a euro-spec MB which is MORE than 25 years old and is currently in Canada. I know over 25 years they don't have to be NHTSA compliant, but anything produced after 1967 must be EPA compliant. I know this car is Euro-spec and does NOT have a catalytic converter, but it is titled/registered in Canada - so how the heck would the US EPA view its origin? Does a 25+ year old car really have to have a cat to even get over the border? It's a sweet car at a good price - at least on paper.

Anybody have insight?
