Importing Euro-spec car from CANADA to the US

Yes, there are many similarly-worded threads on this, but NONE has yet answered my question. I am very interested in purchasing a euro-spec MB which is MORE than 25 years old and is currently in Canada. I know over 25 years they don't have to be NHTSA compliant, but anything produced after 1967 must be EPA compliant. I know this car is Euro-spec and does NOT have a catalytic converter, but it is titled/registered in Canada - so how the heck would the US EPA view its origin? Does a 25+ year old car really have to have a cat to even get over the border? It's a sweet car at a good price - at least on paper.

Anybody have insight?

What year and model is the car you are contemplating importing? So far as I know, no vehicles prior to 1975 cars in the USA ever had catalytic converters on them in the first place...the diesels never had them at all

When I was looking to bring a '69 Pagoda into the US from Canada, I called a shipping company for a quote - that guy simply said, "If the car is over 25 yrs old, I'll get it over no problem." He was going to handle all the paperwork as well. My understanding is that if it's over 25yrs, it comes in without any issue - EPA or NHTSA.

Beware - no car rusts like Canadian cars.

Just to be 100 % sure, I'd give US Customs a call.
