CE Light P1525 & P1519
P1525/1519 DTCs
Friend asked me to look at dealer diagnosis of his '99 Kompressor CE light. Estimate to correct is C$3000!! Codes are P1525 and P1519 which apparently relate to Camshaft timing actuator (Y89) and camshaft timing logic chain respectively. Can anyone comment on dealers diagnosis and solution? Dealer technician checked Y89/Y49 solenoid. Found weak ground in "off" position and apparently open circuit on windings. Technician checked continuity between ME2.0 module Pin #4 and solenoid - OK. He also did some other tests on wiring with load applied and concluded wiring was OK. He therefore concluded ground problem was caused by the ground fault within ME2.0 . He also concluded that the bad ground caused solenoid to stay "on" when not required and therefore burned out the windings. He tried contact cleaner on ME2.0 connections with no change. Final conclusion, was that a transistor within ME2.0 must have an internal ground fault. Cure was to replace Solenoid Y49/Y89 (C$119) and the ME2.0 part 028-545-46-32 (C$2480) Dealer suggested that there was no problem running car with this problem and to perhaps tape over the CE light! |

I would start with a new solenoid & a K40 power solenoid.
There are re-man ME units from Beckmann tec in NC.

Seeing this is not my car and owner is not too handy, is it easy to pull the K40 and inspect it - I saw pictures of burned out solder on cct board either here or on another site. Will look at re-man ME2.0 units. It would be good to avoid replacing this especially if problem is really eslewhere! |
