I replaced the batteries on the remote and now the car won't start with the key. Engine turns for 1 second then dies. Engine will start with valet key.

Does anyone know the procedure for resetting the IR key fob?

My car is a 1997 C36

Not 100 % sure but, try leaving the key in the ignition for a few minutes. ( Without trying to start the car ).

If you have the fully electronic type key, the batteries power the IR transimiter to lock/unlock the doors only.

A transducer is used to authorize the start sequence and it requires no power.

Hmm, so do the transducers fail? My remote works fine but the key blade cannot start the car. Are there transducers built into the valet and flat keys?
