please help with ignition wires and plugs
ok, so here is the deal,
i have 2 sets of brand new ignition wire sets from 2 different manufacturers. the car is 2000 c280 sport. one set is BERU and on the metal end of the wires there is a resistance value of 2.2 kOhms. the other set is KARLYN, and on these wires the resistance reading is 1 kOhm. Both came with Bosh spark plugs Bosh FR8DPP33. Supposedly, both wire sets are for this car. Now originally the spark plugs were non-resistive, F8DPP33, but Bosh changed them to resistive ones. Now, I am confused on to which wires i should use. Could the low resistance of the KARLYN wires be because of the resistance in the spark plugs, where as the BERU are designed for non-resistive plugs? Or should I go with the original BERU wires. Please help, this is very confusing. arek |

On that application, Beru & Karlyn are both aftermarket quality.
The Beru set is closer to the OE standard quality (Bosch).

Well, I replaced the plugs and wires and everything seems OK. I used the cheaper Karlyn wires, which have actually 2kOhms resistance, but the indication is different and it threw me off - 1kOhm mark on each end makes 2 kOhms. The original wires were indicated 2 kOhm, and Beru are 2.2 kOhm for anyone interested. I used NGK iridium plugs, and the car idles and pulls like never before - granted I never driven the car new ... i guess this is how it is meant to run. Also, the temp dial is now in the middle of the gauge, (and it is summer) where as before it was around the next mark up. The engine is running cooler a bit. And idle ... you cannot the the car is running, and the steering wheel does not shake anymore. well, just thought I'd share.
