is it the 96 e320? i seem to remember that the left side mount has to come out in order to remove the compressor.i agree that it sounds like a motor mount noise.

Yes, it's for the 96 E320. It has the M104.

If it is the case of the motor mount why does it make the noise only when the AC is engaged?
If I just have the air on, the sound goes away.
