A great model for sure. Lots of power and a great long-lived powerplant. If you are considering one, plan on having the engine wiring harness inspected carefully. This is a $1500 repair and if this car hasn't had it done, it will need it in the future. Not an "if" but rather "when"

Mercedes are expensive to service so make sure to expect it...

Thumbs up

The E420 is about 75% of the performance you'd get out of the screaming E500, so they are a really great near-sport sedan. they are very well balanced, go really fast, and handle and corner, very very well right out of the box.

This is one of the very last of the uber high quality, cost no object cars, built when the engineers had the upper hand, so it will last for intergalactic mileages while providing modern safety amenities like ABS and SRS and not be crippled with electronic gizmos and computers all over the place.

They are still in use this day as taxis in some areas, so they are very, very tough and capable, and just right for for people and luggage.

It is said they do get a bit hotter under the hood than the 300 which has more room under the hood.

There is a LOT to like about the '94-'95 E420. They are near the end of the model run, and that means all bugs are sorted out pretty well, and the environmentally friendly wiring harnesses were added on purpose, unfortunately. They look especially nice with the euro-like headlights on them that they came with, and actual euro headlights are even better.

If you have one already, it's maybe the best choice for a Mercedes with the very very best of the old AND new.

If you are looking, get it inspected, and if all systems are go and you like the color, be prepared to buy it right away, and look forward to a long lasting love affair with this car.

They are really really great cars, in every way that counts, only the 500E outperforms them.

I've allready had it for a few months now and just wondered what you guys thought of it. I love it so much. and i've been looking at some clear corner head lights; $200 for two. So yes thank you for replying so quickly.see the a/c doesn't work to it in and said it would cost around $2000 to repair and it need a new head gasket so I bought it for FREE he gave it to me with 88k miles. lets it's white I want to paint it with new black rims. so all the repairs are going to cost about $5k. Like 5 bbroken parts on the air. I bought it off this guy and it was his CAMPING car. total disrespecting it.

Never mind the clear or smoked corners, what the car came with are fine.

Spend your money on the Euro headlights for the beam pattern; they throw a better pattern (always buy a LEFT HAND DRIVE aimed set or there will be trouble) and the increased light they give out for better night driving is amazing; the looks are a bonus.

Search for archived threads on the subject of W124 headlights, it has been discussed many times here before, and there are lots of friendly helpful experts. Here are a couple of them to get you started.

instructions to wire European headlights

Get H4 Hella Bosch. Avoid the Taiwanese and Chinese junk that is out there.

Sources are KAT MAC, Depo, Performance Products, Capitol West, etc

Stuff like wheels and stereo would come later, after everything else is fixed.

Your car is low mileage, but it has been abused and neglected, though it can be brought back. It should be worth the time and expense it if you got it for basically free!!

where can I find these "euro" head lights? I've read the forums you gave me but no one said where they got them.

Thank you.
