Thanks, I am now thinking your advice on the wheel store changing the locks might be a good thing to do well compared to getting a locksmith to make a key depending on cost.
I guess I can call a locksmith & ask his advice if he can get or make a key for the lock? They can make keys for locks right?

I'm getting overwhelmed with potential costs to keep this car running
It would be nice if the car just was ok with the tensioner n rails n things.

I don't think a lock smith can make that type of key. Flat keys yes, Wheel lock keys..I don't think so.

I know exactly how you feel about spending money right now.

Think about it an let me know. I just want you to see that the car is OK So you'll feel better about it. My labor is cheap. Will work for Iced Tea....LOL

I have a California 85 500SEC with 290,000 K miles. It was well taken care of and is still fun to drive with classic looks and euro headlights. I love driving it. Some of the plastic parts are a bit old and tired and tend to break during repairs but the car seems very reliable. I hope to keep it another 100K miles. 190K miles is not that much on this car. Good luck.

Yeah, 3 years & this morning I installed 2 MB hangers on the rear muffler
then called this tire shop on Sherman Way...J & J tires as he fixed my Volvo flat very well & is reasonable.

Well he said he'd look at it
He got the lock off with a screwdriver
HAHA
then he took it to try to match it or get a key but no luck.
he loosened them all & no charge
He suggested coming back when his parts guy is in.\

He says they are mercedes locks
Someone thinks they are Zinders????

Oh well

Anyway I have the locks out
they are just bolts
I'm cleaning them up & now I can take them around to see if I can get the key
\
Yeah!!!!!!

Now if I go to Enrigues he can rotate the tires & check the brakes...

3 years!!!!

CS,
You DA GIRL!
You put the muffler hangers on by yourself. I'm impressed. I have doen that job and even with a couple floor jacks and getting thoes hooks really close together, it is STILL a job. You go girl!

I think you can use a Metric bolt the same size thread and just use them instead of the locks, I don't think there is much of a threat of theft for these old wheels out there. You can buy them all day long at Pull-A-Part for $25.00 tire and all.

I kept a set of 15" Centra's and two had locks and a 2 didn't, but had a metric bolt holding the caps on.
The Centra's may go on Abby when she is running and looking better.

wasn't easy but I'm proud
got that muffler tight as can be up to the undercarraige bolt
used a 2 by 4 & a milk crate & some heavy low box to wedge under the wood to keep it up
LOL
then I wrestled a good time til I finally figured to use a screwdriver to pry & position & well its done

so saved that $
got my wheel locks off so now the hunt is on

I took them to another MB mech who the locksmith recommended
lucky thing he is a few blocks from my home
anyway he said to be careful of getting bolts as they are beveled & a straight bolt head could get wedged

I cleaned up the locks
they are not symetrical
looks like a hand cut head

I don;t know
I found out they are 8mm & I might see if Home depot has some similar
& I like to get them in stainless if I can
probllem solved
anyway if I don't put them on too tight I can use a screwdriver to take them 0ff \

Use a couple flat washers under the head of the bolt to keep fromgetting the head caucht in the hole in the cap. I think any wheel shop that sells wheels with large caps(are there any of the large cap wheelssold today?) Might be able to sell you a set ofd 4 with a wrench. Don't know for sure. The bolts and washers will work till you find the right ones.

As to the original question you first posed when you started this thread, it's OK to have both!!! Look at my sig! It's not like marriage where you are limited to just one spouse, you are allowed to have more than one! (There is also a "Benzer 4" now, a 95 E420 that I'll add to the sig when space allows.) I hope I never have to choose between my Volvos and my Benzes!
Regards, Eric

Go to a dealer and get another Master Key and a new Valet key. Take your registration with you as they will only sell you a key if you are the registered owner of the car. I think a master key is $35.00 and a Valet Key is $18.00.

Great to have spare...just in case.

Tried that years ago but they don't have records for the german euro cars
guess I'd have to have someone willing to try to hook up to a german dealer?

All I could find at the dealer is that they said the car was built in 82 think May

locks are old & drivers door doesn't always close all the way
Enrique tried to adjust it the best he could
Guess in a have lots of $ to spend it would be nice to have all new locks put in & work on the drivers door shutting.

always something n then theres the chain worries

I was pretty sure they were Centra's but Lorinser did make a close copy of them, or the other way around' Wow 16" ers. WOW!

Glad you found a took to work with them. I had the tool for mine on the Blue Bird, but the tire guys always used a screwdriver faster than I could retrieve the tool from the glove box.

Well today the locks got a good cleaning & I shut them til just tight & I can get them off. put aside a shorty screwdriver just for the wheels

Yeah, I never knew
all they have on them is SND

Today A friend gave me a replacement for my cracked fogl;ight
spent the entire nigth getting it in & aligning my other one
found out a bolt was missing from the bracket so I installed my own

Shes coming along good

I also was given a fuel pump & a set of original euro fuel injectors for the euro.

I met this very nice person while I was picking parts & they are a mercedes nut too.

Why did you sell your low mileage euro...it looked so nice
mine has almost 197K now...

A whole 800 miles in 3 years

Those heavy doors may be sagging due to wear at the hinges. Then the latch doesn't line up right and makes it hard to close. You can sight down the side of the car using the body lines to tell if it is sagging when the door is near the latch but not closed. The latch itself may need some lubrication to work smoothly. Try spraying some penetrating lube into the latch.

To repair may require adjustment of the hinges. This usually entails supporting the door and loosening the hinge bolts that allow the door to be repositioned so the latch is raised. It is tricky, may take some trial and error. If the hinges are badly worn, they may need replacement.

I didn't read through the entire thread, so I apologize if this has been discussed before, but it might be helpful for you to contact the MB Classic Center for the difficulties encountered with parts like the key. There is a Center in Irvine, CA, and one in Germany. I am pretty sure there is a member here who has worked at the Irvine center for a long time.
