I Inherited a 1992 190e, it has some problems and I need to know where to start looking.

1. car will not start, it turns over ok and it does sound like timing chain is broken so what is the next logical step in diagnosing its problem.
my thinking is check for spark....
then what comes next

2. the power seats driver side will recline but will not come back and the heat rest will not work
and the passenger seat will come back but will not recline but the head rest works ok.
my think is there some kind of relay in that system or is this a pure switch problem

This look like my winter project car so any direction would be greatly appreciated
