ABS seems to activate no matter the conditions.190E
This is on a 91 190E 2.6 that I am rescuing after a slight front end mishap. Only the grille, ac condenser, and radiator had to be replaced. At the first start-up in about a year, everything hummed along perfectly while stationary. When stopping, no matter how lightly, the ABS seems to activate. The pedal breaks under foot and I can hear the ABS pump with its characteristic hum/grind. (very low noise but immediately identifiable)
Where should I start? I suspect the wheel speed sensor/sensors but would like to know if this is a known issue with a direct solution or not. Thanks, Sam NE Ga. 91 190E 2.6 91 190E 2.6 (Yes, another one) 76 300D 77 230 |

you have hit it on the head that will be the problem unless you have a very loose wheel bearing on one side or the other.

Take the hob off and check the ABS reluctor wheel. It's probably got lots of metal bits from the brake pads in there. Use brake cleaner and then take all the metal shavings out with your fingers.
