What do you guys think of this?

This is a really nice looking 380SE but it needs a new engine. Is it worth the trouble? It seems cheap enough but the saying,"there's nothing nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes Benz" keeps coming to mind.

Talking

But, the queston is: Do you really need another one?

Isn't the 300D still in progress?

No I don't really need another one. It just looks like a really nice car.
If all goes as planned, the 300D should get it's engine installed this weekend.

The price isn't bad. If it were a little newer, I would say that if you had a line on a working motor, to go for it. Then again, if you can get a good, working motor for a song, then you might as well.

To sum it up:

If you can get a cheap enough replacement engine, YES
If you cannot get a cheap enough replacement engine, NO.

I'd jump all over that if it was closer.

I've looked around and could probably get a good engine for about $1100.

I usually say to myself, "I like that and I could buy it, but I'll pass." Keeps me out of too much trouble on the cheap ones.

It sure looks like a nice specimen. If you like the old 126 style, go for it. You might even get lucky and salvage the existing engine with a new timing chain and valve work.

The 126's are among my favorite Mercedes body styles.

Arrow

I had a 380SE once in my life and will not do it again. It will just waste petrol for its V8 with poor performance. Forget to get a 380 even for free.
