While pulling out of a parking garage this morning, I turned the wheel hard left. When I did this, there was resistance, a scraping sound, then the wheel moved smoothly. When I continued driving, the wheel would make the same scraping sound with resistance and then smoothe out. Each time it did this, the wheel would be more crooked when the car was going straight. When the neutral position of the steering wheel reached 180 degrees, the steering smoothed back out and no more problems.
The question is can I continue driving with an upside down steering wheel and be OK, or will it fall off or something while I'm driving?
