Exclamation 2000 C280 replace computer

I took my car into a shop because the idle starting running low. Took it to AutoZone first and a cylinder 6 misfire read registered. I had it at the shop for over a week because they were unable to find the problem. They said they had replace all of the spark plugs and wires and was still running badly. They finally concluded that it was the "computer" in my car that is the problem. And said it would be approx. $1700+ to repair. But he could possible put in a used "computer" for half.

Has anyone else had this computer problem? I'm considering having them put the used part. Thanks so much.

Variel

A used computer won't work! unless it is divorced from it's original car.

OF course has that shop been thru ALL of the basics??

Compression good on that cylinder?
Tried a new coil OR swapped from a different cylinder??
Tried a new injector OR swapped from another cylinder??

You went to auto zone for your 2000 C280, right?

You are surprised they can not fix it?

Have they checked the harness, coils, plug boots? You kinda need tohave a GOOD close to factory or factory scanner to work on those years.

I took it to AutoZone just so that I could kinda get an idea of what the problem would be by using their scanner. I know that their scanner is very basic, but it gave me some idea of what them problem may be.

It read that the car had a cylinder 6 misfire. Took it to my mechanic and he was unable to find the problem. He said he had replaced all plugs but other than that I'm not sure how he was able to determine it was the computer. I'll ask him if he's tried what you suggested.

Thanks!

What are the symptoms? Past 65mph, vehicle starts to 'skip?' Also, at traffic light, after vehicle has gone high speed, car idle, vehicle begins to shudder? Slow to accelerate?

If the car had a misfire on one cylinder, did he try replacing the coil wire boot?

Did he try swapping coil wires?

This is a very basic and simple issue that usually has a pretty inexpensive solution.

You need to find a new mechanic and quick.
