ASR Problems

Need Help, my ASR light recently came on. I got in my car yesterday to leave and it would hardly move. It will crank and go into gear but when the gas paddle is pushed it wont engage unless the paddle is pushed all the way to the floor. I noticed the ASR light on. I have tried unplugging the battery but still the same. After I turn it off and crank it again, the light isn't on. I can push the brake paddle and nothing comes on but when I push the gas paddle it comes on. My mechanic says it needs an electronic throttle pedal control unit for $1,200. Is there any way to over ride this problem to save the money?

Probably not, but you may not need a new throttle actuator. But first tell us what car you have, whether the fault codes have been checked, and what codes you're getting.

Don't have to..that chassis has owner Flash codes access under the hood ..[ that is why we waited for the year/chassis info from you..the 124 chassis have that feature, but the later e320/210 chassis do not]
Allways list the year/chassis for e320 or you will get wrong info, if any at all.

go here:

I do appreciate that info, a friend of mine is an import mechanic and I will see if he can bring home a diagnostic pc device and see what the codes are saying. Although, I am not sure about what you mean about flash codes under the hood?? Is this something you can do without the diagnostic device?? Please explain.
thanks

You need a "reader" to access the blink codes from under the hood.

See posts 2, 3 & 5 in the link Arthur provided.

There is a black box in front of the battery..lift the cover and you will see a Led and a push sw... you can get codes by using a sequence of pushing that button and watching the codes numerically FLASH back on the LED.
Use the Search feature here and enter "Code Retrieve"
That will school you on how to get your codes ..

You can also build that little led tool I posted and get all of them from the other sockets.
