Alternator rebuild questions

I replaced the stock 70 amp alternator on my 300e with the above one earlier this year and the bearing went out in it.

What size bearings are used in a 1997 S420 143amp alternator (AL0162X)? I haven’t opened the alternator yet. Just thought I would ask and find out.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

HS

Just double checking 143 Amp? Is it a Bosch? Only showing 110 and 115 amp for '97.
110/115 is 17mm ID x 47mm OD x 14mm W

Thanks.

It is a 143 amp Bosch unit. 143 Amps is imprinted on the unit. I'll post the part number later today.

I referenced this thread and then bought the unit: Alternator Options - I need Help!!

I might be able to cross with part #. Can't get a hit on 143 amp and 97 420. Hit a starter joint in the Big D and pick up a new bearing for $10 Bosch alternator/starter parts have always been fairly reasonable.

Thanks again TX.

I found a picture of the 143 amp alternator with the part number.

I found the alternator by substituting a 600 S class. It comes up with a bearing part number of 2000910003 (Bosch)

Thank you for finding out the p/n. One last question: Does your part listing provide the size of the bearing? If not, I will hit the dealer and find out.

Excellent writeup. The front brearing on that alternator is a 17x52x17 (IDxODxW) and is a non-standard size. It was available through the dealer for $49.50. I have placed an order for it. The rear is a standard 6203-2RS bearing.

$10.55 here. The second time I needed one (Bosch alternator in a Range Rover), I ordered from these guys.
