S320 P0763 stupidity problem!!!
Hello, I’m new to the forum, first time post.
I did a pretty dumb thing on my last oil change on my 99 S320 (110k). I measured the oil fill on the ramps which probably gave me about a quart overfill. I forgot to recheck on the level. After several miles of driving, the transmission started slipping badly and then locked me out at the worst possible time and place. Limp mode and AAA finally got me out of there. I dropped the oil level to where it should be but I’m still stuck in limp. The engine is running perfectly although I did seem to notice leakage back near the trans when I had the problem, but that seems to have stopped now. I borrowed an OBDII reader and I am showing P0763 (Solenoid C electric circuit fault). I have been searching the threads and realize this could be many things including the solenoid(s); wire harness; conductor plate; TCM or other. I assume I am dealing with a 722.605 trans. I’ve had a lot of years of experience in wrenching on various cars, boats, bobcats and small motorcycles but I probably know “less than nothing” about MB transmissions. My questions are, what might you recommend that I could possibly check on my own before I find a trained and well- equipped MB tech? Is my understanding that 'even if it’s fixed, I need MB to clear the limp mode', correct? Is there a simple way to clear it and see if it returns? Does anyone know a good tech within limp driving range of Walnut Creek, CA? Thank you, Chris M. ![]() |

The only thing I can say is that the engine oil level had to do nothing with your electric problem but accidentally they occurred at the same time.
