I made the mistake of putting my 2.3-16v 1987 German spec' cossie into a Bosh specialist, a year ago to sort out the lack of power under 4,000 rpm, (over that it goes like stink.)
I found a car the same model and year as mine in the scrap yard and got the complete air box and fuel distributer, it looked untouched so I though,"bung it on, it must be about right", wrong. managed to adjust the tower adjustment until the car started on the button but was still low on power and definitely a bit sick, so as I had a spare Bosh fuel pump, (good ol' eBay) I took a look at the pumps, etc at the rear, HORROR, the idiots had only connected the pumps up wrong, from tank to pump one to filter etc. pump two had the inlet and outlet looped, as in in empty, dry, doing nothing. So I clamped up the fuel pipe, pulled off the pipe from number one pump and the connecting pipe from number two pump, replaced number two pump as it had been running dry for so long with the spare and reassembled the two pumps in series, one after the other in-line, as it is supposed to be. now I managed to get the engine started but it is obvious that the settings are now all over the shop. so where do I start? Bearing in mind this is a basic, none cat' model with the small earlier diagnostics socket next to the battery (8 pin) and no oxygen sensor. Any starting point would be gratefuly received. I must add that without any outside interference the car used to be 'perfect', power slides in road-a-bouts, top speed of 245kph (145mph) a very good fuel, then it all went to pot.
