Strange Transmission Behavior! 1996 E320/ M104

Hey Guys!

Ok, so i had the shifter linkage bushing replaced yesterday due to my sloppy shifter being all over the place. So last night i am driving home from work, and she will not go into 4th gear. She ran great through all 3 forward gears, and she is topped out in 3d, and will not advance. As well, at one point, she popped into neutral!!!!??? WTF??!! As well, when i go in reverse, there is something rubbing under the car... When i had the car inspected yesterday, i was also advised that the transmission mount was gone...

Question- Could a bad transmount cause irrattic behavior of the transmission? I know the trans is good because this behavior all started once someone went down there and started playing around!!!!!

Any advise/ ideas would help!

Transmission mounts aren't that expensive, to buy or to install. You say the "bushing" / singular, was replaced. They just did one? There are two. The front one is considerably harder to do than the rear. If they didn't do the hard one that could be the problem, or perhaps in combination with a bad mount. Next step would be to get under it and inspect everything.

Bushings

They replaced both linkage bushings. It is just a strange occurance. Now the car is shifting properly. My worst fear is that it is the transmission itself.... I cannot imagine that the transmission is the problem!!!!

Now It Gets Better!

So I bring the car back to the shop today b/c new problems arised immediately after the shifter-linkage was repaired. The shop I used tells me that there is nothing wrong, and everything seams OK! Fine- I go to pick the car up after work today and guess what happens..... NO-REVERSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just to be clear - you mean the shift lever goes into reverse but the car does not go backwards?

..also , check to see if back-up lamps come on when shifter is in R......

We think you might have an incorrect linkage adjustment.

Reverse

Well, the lights go on in reverse- i think... When you move the shifter linkage, the lights come on at a certain point, but it was acting like there was no reverse gear at all. I NEVER had a problem with the transmission until they touched this linkage! GRRR. In drive, it only advanced to 3d gear still!!!

I will keep y'all up to date as soon as i get the ill-fated call......
