w202 c class fuel pump
I have a 99 c240 50k miles saloon. The fuel pump whines when the engine is running....it was replaced....still whines...1st pump put on my brother's car....no whine. Can't be pump...anyone know what this might be? sounds like 'neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee'...obviously dissapears on over-run throttle-off.
As a 6 cylinder car, the engine is very quite, which makes the noise very noticable and irritating. car seem to run OK (excellent) apart from this.HELP! |

Pobably not the fuel pump. Something else in the vicinity must be making the noise.
Lotsa stuff in that area - CV joints, brakes, rear end, etc.

w202 c class fuel pump
Hi
thanks Waybomb, for the input...but it's the pump squeeling.....local shop had it up on the ramp......+ goes off on the over-run.....could it be the filter's blocked...would that do it? |

I'd think if the filter was that plugged up, the car wouldn't run.
You say the other pump was making noise too, you put it on another car, and no noise, right? I can't remember how my 202's fuel pump is held on - have you tried running the pump with it not connected to its mounts? If you open the gas cap, does the noise go away? I have no clue what's going on here, but I suspect the pump is fine and there's something with the car. A fuel filter is only 20 bucks or so. Change it and see what happens. Probably hasn't been changed in a while anyway.

w202 c class fuel pump
Hi Waybomb,
once again, nice 'talking to you'.....to put you in the pic. I bought this car some while ago without realising that the neeeeeeeeeeeee noise wasn't normal..it was only when I spoke to my brother (I.L.) that I realised it shouldn't do that.....them came the tests.......back off at speed (which I'm lead to believe, kills the fuel flow) and hey-presto....the sound dissapeared...returning when I re-commenced 'pedal'....every time....so it HAD to be the fuel pump whining... If. as I suspect, something (poss filter) is making it whine, then I need to get it sorted before the added pressure on the pump makes it fail. The conclusive evidence was to tansfer the 'noisy' pump on to another car, as, above which proved it wasn't the pump itself where the fault lay. Think I'll have to try a specialist before the pump expires Best Wishes....Tony |
