Services need to be done at dealership?

I'm wondering about the validity of my service representatives claim that in order for my car to maintain its warrantee, I have to get everything done in the service B package, and I have to get it done by a dealership. Last time I took it was a nightmare, it cost around $800 CND, and included services such as washing my engine and checking that the seatbelts worked. Not to mention that when my computer said it was low on oil, they assured me it was a computer malfunction, until I found out they installed a faulty oil filter, half of the oil in my engine leaked out, and despite this, and the fact that I had to miss work again (their 'complimentary rides' didnt work with my work schedule), I didnt receive a cent back. At this point I simply dont trust them, is there no way a private technician can work on the car, and keep the warrantee valid, so I could actually expect the least bit of customer service??

Service work can be done at any shop, even by the owner, without automatically voiding a new car warranty.

However, if a warranty claim is made and there is evidence that the claim is a result of bad work done by the other shop or owner, then the warranty not require the company to remedy the problem since it was due to the other shop or the owner.

Check with MB Canada and Canadian law. U.S. manufacturers can not require dealer service because there is a U.S. law saying that they can not. If the law did not exist they might well try it. Canada may also have such a law. It's considered a competitive issue - called tying. Businesses are not supposed to be able to tie one service or business line to another - better to have competition in both.

Read your Owner's Manual.
Specifically the WARRANTY Section.
As for your previous experience,.....try another M-B dealer.

This is like asking a barber if you need a haircut.

To start with what year & model car...it does help.

MB dealers cannot "make" you have the car serviced there. They can be a pain in the A** if have problems & you don't have EXACT service records. Some dealers step all over their customers instead of providing "service"!

IF have any maintenance done by an independent shop make sure to have them provide the same service & records that the dealer SHOULD provide!
