electrical issue: 1986 560SEC
Recently my A/C blower in the dash just quit working. Where is the blower motor located so that we can run a hot wire to it to see if it's the blower motor itself or a switch, relay, or ?
Also on the same car: some of the instrument panel lights quit working. The reserve fuel light will come on, the direction lights arrows come on, and the center console switch lights come on....just the gauge lights quit working....any ideas? thanks, zack |

Your particular blower problem could be alot of things. I will touch on the issues I had with my '84 500SEC. First open the hood. Look on the top of the drivers side wheel well for a small "coffin" type box. Open it. Inside is an 80 amp strip fuze. These may look ok but in some cases they are actually blown. Press lightly in the center to see if the strip splits.
Replace if blown. Next, using a flash light look down under the brake booster. Way down in there is the blower motor resistor group. Looks like a box with alot of holes in it. Over time this area under the brake booster collects debris. If not kept clean the debris could catch fire from the heat given off by the blower resister group. Wires down there my become detached or broken. Now, look up under the glove box for a circular "door" secured by three or four screws. You may need to remove the knee bolster panel. Remove three or four screws. Remove the door and pull the blower motor out. Could be alot of dirt in this. Could be that the dirt has seized the motor too. |

This has hapopend to me recently. I willhave the car in to a mechanic in Los Angeles to figure out what is wrong.
The wierd part of it is sometimes the AC comes on, yet at only one speed, and no heat, for a little while while the car is on the highway. then it quits again. I already replaced the fuse, no luck. Will see what happens.
