Removing door lock mechanism

Does anybody know how to remove the actual mechanism from inside the drivers door? My 84 300 SD had a problem with the driver's door lock when I acquired it, it had lots of problems including a non working power window. While I was repairing the window mechanism, I had a look at the lock and I could see that all the parts were not connected. The shaft that goes from the tumbler to the linkage that makes the lock go up and down was not connected. Well, today at the Pick & Pull I found an 84 and I tried removing the inner lock with no luck. I could not figure out how to get it around the rear window guide. I removed the two 10mm bolts that hold the short horizontal piece of the window regulator to get it out of the way, but I still could not manage to get the lock to go around the vertical piece. I read on some other posts that some models have rivets that hold a similar piece in place, but I did not see any on this car. Does the mechanism have to be dis-assembled before it will come out?

Thanks,

Bill

Checked Alldata

I checked Alldata for some info, and all they say is to rotate the lock assembly to clear the window channel and remove from the bottom opening. I disconnected the little vacuum motor from the lock so I know that is not hanging it. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,

Bill
