Exclamation w126 trans flare fixed still refuses to shift into 3rd

I have an 87 560 sel, I belive it has a 91 sl trans though. I live on the island of maui in hawaii. On my way up the volcano haleakala (sea-level to 3500 ft in 25 min.) my trans cooler line failed losing all my fluid. I heated up quite a bit. This was after I had added lucas trans. I have since read that this is a bad thing and I agree whole heartedly.I added fluid as soon as I got the opportunity but was still leaking terribly. My fluid that still remained was burgendy with a bitter burnt smell. I was flaring from 2500 to 3000 befor moving in 1st and engaging into second. The trans refuses to engauge into 3rd. There was some burnt carbon like particles accompanied by a very small amount of metal shavingsin my trans pan.The fluid was also a bit thick. After spending much time researching in the forums I decided to tackle the valve body. Inside there was some gunky burnt particlesand sludge. I disassembled the valve body cleaned and reinstalled. My flares have stopped. !st and 2nd are very strong and are working well but it still will not engauge at third, revs as high as ill take it. I trust this forum as though my own car was talking to me. Do I have very many options. Im not timid when it comes to large and scary projects as long as I have a diagram. Thank you Larry Bible for all the things youll never know you helped me with!!!!!

Larry M.
