I heard something the other day about "stupid driver" clauses in insurance policies - i.e. if you do something really stupid you're simply not covered. Driving into high water is given as the example of something really stupid. Not sure how common the use of the clause.

He could have bought a G Wagon for that much. Then he could drive through all the high water he wanted to.

FWIW, drive a Mini Cooper S ( supercharged ) through a deep puddle of water, and I can pretty much guarantee you ,you will experience " Hydrostatic Lock ", i.e. demolish the engine in the same manner.
The price for the engine is pretty much the same as a BMW V-12.

A friend of mine did the exact same thing with her new Mini Cooper

This part got me wondering. I cannot understand how MB could make such a mistake, especially on such a high-profile parts order! Clearly this element to the story/wait was MB's fault; not consumer, not insurance and not the service department, however your time and effort to order and QA the parts deserves compensation.

Would the bill have been any less had your dealership received the correct parts when ordered?

Again. Thanks for sharing. And if you have any spare parts from this job in N. Jersey, I'll happily pick up. I need a few M120 parts for a damaged W140 S600

No, the wrong part only cost us some time, not any actual money.

If I owned that car I'd keep a copy of the invoice in the records, scare the **** out of the next owner.

Makes all of MY car repairs seem pretty inconsequential . . .

Yeah, Good point. If it does, that would really hurt your resale value even though you went to the expense of completely replacing the engine.

That's a good point. I wonder if there was water inside the car?

The car made it through the puddle, so there was no water inside the car. As far as the rust issue is concerned, I doubt this will become a problem in the future. The underside of the car probably didn't get any wetter than it normally would during typical wet weather driving conditions.
