what are the possibilities for the engine running at 1800 rpm when in park and then reduces to 900 to a 1000 rpms when in drive.

Over voltage relay not powering the idle speed computer.
Idle speed computer not sending signal to idle valve.
Idle speed valve not responding.
No RPM signal from ignition module to idle speed ECU.
