COMAND Upgrades
I'm thinking of getting a second car, and there's a 2001 W210 4MATIC nearby that looks like it might fit the bill.
The car currently has COMAND and I'm presuming it's the original system. Given that there are instructions in several places online that detail how to upgrade, how tricky would it be to switch this vehicle to COMAND 2.0 + GPS? Has anyone here done it before?

If the car is equipped with COMAND, it has the NAVI system as well. There is a software upgrade available, but it won't add any features that the system doesn't already have. It will only fix a few glitches inherent to the COMAND 2.0 system. Also, if the car is a 2001 model, there's a good chance it already has the latest software. If you do take the plunge on this car, make sure it comes with the entire set of NAVI CD's.

ILUVMILS - thanks for your input, I did indeed take the plunge on this car, and it does come with the navigation CD's, and I have an option to buy the latest set at dealer cost, not retail.
There's still some work to be done on the car (new ACC control unit and new master key) but all the paperwork is signed - I'm the owner of a blue 2001 W210 E320 4MATIC with 68Kmi. It'll be ready for collection next week! The one problem I have with the car is the phone. I understand that the onboard Teleaid is analogue only and I can't do anything about that (thus rendering the red "SOS" button useless), but the other phone is Motorola TimePort - it comes with the car, I found it in the armrest). Can that be upgraded to a GSM phone, or to a Bluetooth module? Edit: I've since discovered that the Tele Aid analogue module can be updated to digital, but at a hefty cost. Is this DIY-able? Plus, I found the V60 Bluetooth Module for V60-equipped W210's, but I have a TimePort. Where can I get a V60 cradle?

Get the V60 cradle from a dealer. But, you're going to need a new PSE, too--that's the box of electronics in the trunk.
The teleaid upgrade is a simple box under the rear seat replacement, but then the thing needs to be "programmed" using dealer equipment. There are dealer technical bulletins describing the steps.

If I am lucky enough to have the V60/Timeport autosensing PSE (Q682-0754), would all I need is the cradle?
Would the dealer have the V60 PSE's?
