Need help replacing shifter bulb -- W124

The bulb illuminating the shifter on my 1993 300E is out, so I got to it tonight and can't figure out how the heck to get the bulb out of the holder. I found it, pulled the bulb out and futzed around trying to get it out of the holder but could not figure it out. Is there some sort of trick I'm not figuring out, or do I need to buy the whole thing as a replacement?

Thanks,
Mike

you should be able to pluck it out with your fingers....

i guess a pair of pliers would be an alternative...

there is no trick to it...

Thanks. I guess I was just making it more difficult than it needs to be.

After pulling it out very easily, I now feel like an absolute idiot. Thanks again for the help.

Don't feel bad. I finally got tired of guessing where drive was too and I remember I had trouble getting the bulb out. I don't remember what I did to get it out, but I do remember feeling pretty stupid about how simple it was when I finally figured it out.

Yeah, I tried all sorts of things last night trying to get that bulb out. Then after getting help on here, pulled it out of the holder in about two seconds.

Now I just need to find a replacement bulb. Am I correct in assuming this is a dealer-only item?

It would probably cost less for the bulb at the dealer than the fuel burn to drive anywhere else. I usually get two or more to make the trip worth while. I think the bulb is used elsewhere on the car.

got my bulbs at AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts... two to a pack... i think a pack was 2.88. Maybe 1.88.

I did take the bulb. They matched it on their computer.
