99 E430 window
Left rear window mechanism in friend's 99 E430 has failed. Does this
mechanism have the same little plastic slide that often fails in 123's and 126's? Also, what else is on same circuit with this window, so I can ask him specifically, "What else doesn't work"? Wilton Goldsboro, NC 91 350SDL, 87 300D 80 240D (DECEASED) 81 300D (SOLD) |

"Failed" as in the window isn't rolling all the way up, or simply not operative???
The mechanism breaks, i am struggling to remember what exactly it is that breaks, but seem to recall it is nothing really repairable, need a new mechanism. Gilly

"Failed" as in "will not go up - inoperative." Window went down OK and suddenly wouldn't go back up. He lifted window by hand and taped it in place. I just listened by window while owner tried switch. 'Heard click inside door.

When the window regulator breaks the motor chews up the cable and the plastic roller at the top of the reg breaks in my expirience. Usually hear some crunching and grinding when it happens.
Pull door panel, drill out rivets and re-install new reg. I used small SS nuts and bolts rather than MB's super heavy steel rivets.

Gilly, a frequent failure part in 123 and 126 window mechanisms is the little square plastic slide that the window sits in. I've replaced at least 3 of these on 123's and 126's, myself - very easy fix. Are you saying the mechanism in this car is different - doesn't have this vulnerable little slide, or you don't know/don't remember? Of course, the lift arm can break or warp, etc., and the motor can quit, switch not switch, etc.

It's totally different on these 210 chassis cars. Do a search on "210 window regulator." It's probably the most common failure area on the 210. Fortunately not too terribly difficult or expensive to repair. And yeah, I've done the tape-the-window-up thing too...
