Just picked up my 1985 280te and I have a question

The car bounces a lot whenever I go over the smallest bump. I also hear a sound that is similar that of a Gregorian Monk chant, it is very faint but I can hear it.
The mechanic said it sounds like I need spheres and the damage would be about $500.
Does that make sense to everybody?

Nice find It's got to be a euro. I don't know what spheres are. sound to me like you need shocks, Don't know what the sound you are talking about but congratulations on a great find.

Yes, that sounds like spheres, if at the rear. If it is at the front it would need new shocks....it easily could be both.

Just had the "bombs" replaced and the problem is solved! I must say, I really love everything about this car.

I always wanted one of those; the diesels are neat, but I'd rather have a clean low-mileage 280TE.
