Installing heated seats in regular seat car

So I've got a complete parts car from 1985. Its a 500SEL and in damn good condition considering the conditions in which I obtained it. The engine is basically fixable but I'm not interested in doing it. I'll mess with a diesel as soon as it pulls into my driveway on the other hand. I just have preferences.

I'd like to install the heated seat system into my 1983 300sd. The space is there (coin tray) for the transfer of the switches and the mounting piece. Running them and wiring them up are probably easy enough to figure out on my own.

I'm just wondering from anyone that has taken their seats apart and taken the covering off of them, in both heated seats and normal ones, if there are actual flat "elements" located under the covers that do the actual heating of the seat? I'm not for sure how they're made up inside the seat. If I knew this, I'd be at a better position when starting the project.

One more thing. If anyone has actually done this or has input, I welcome it. I've been thinking it over for awhile now and would like to know if anyone believes this wouldn't be too bad of a job.

Thanks

I have a complete Euro interior for a 123 car from a 300d, 1983. With heated seats including the consol with the switches in it. For sale in the parts for sale here.

You have a 126 seat there you are wanting to put into a 123. it can be done, I am sure but you will have a lot of adapting to do what with the electric seats and so forth.

YOu could sell off the 126 seats and use the dough to buy mine.

Just a thought.

I could have sworn that I'd seen a thread where someone described doing this, but who knows if I could find it now.

I wouldn't think it'd be hard to yank the parts from one 126 to another 126, as the 83 SD is definitely still a 126. Heck, if I had the stuff here, I think I'd be doing it along with all the other changes/restorations of various systems on my SD!

Best of luck!

Type this, swap 123 seat into 126 , in to forum search and you will get 4 or 5 threads that describe this. I was interested in swapping 300SE seats into my 380SE.

Right now I'm working on swapping my passenger seat out for my Driver seat. Driver seat has seat memory and the passenger doesn't and the motors will need to be swapped as well.

The assumption that both the 126 driver and the passenger seats have the same frame is a correct one. the passenger side leather merely covers the armrest/mtg plate holes. Now IF the seat back from the passenger side will cover the drivers side holes in the leather at the armrest, then I'm home free.
My passenger side seat bottom sits about two inches higher than the mushed drivers seat bottom with my big rump in the seats. So this should be a good swap for me. They both need to be recovered, but that can wait awhile. I just bought a like new armrest off Ebay. now I'm looking for two seats to match it's condition.

Arn't these both 126 cars? 500 SEL and 300 SD have the same chassis, but the SEL is a long wheel base. Seats should be the same.
