I had vibration in the body of the car at high speed (>100kmh). I talked to my mechanic who knows the car and as all the suspension parts are good shape he said that he would have to take out the universal and check it for movement as it sometimes binds and gives this problem.
He removed it and when the universal it moved one side moves very freely and the other side has a slight binding. He lubed at moved it and installed it. The vibration in the body of the car is much less. Question is can this small binding give rise to the vibration in the body at high speed. Mechanic said that the whole assembly both drive axles need to be changed as it comes as a set. Any other tricks that can cure the slight binding.

I would replace the entire driveshaft if there is any binding what so ever. I've tried and seen other shops try to lube, hammer, whatever it takes to take the stiffness out but the driveshaft ended up vibrating again after a short period. As for the drive axles I've never heard that they come in pairs.

Thanks Stan
I meant the drive shaft. Can the rear with the universal joint be replaced and leave the front or both have to be replaced. Mechanic says that MB sells the complete assembly.
