New owner 1987 260 E
I have just inherited my Godfathers 1987 260E of which he was the original owner, I have all the books on it. As far as milege it has 125,000 original miles, are there anythings that I should be prepared to address anytime soon??
Thanks, Wrt |

Do the standard stuff like get a tune up if he was not dedicated to keeping her maintained every maintenance point. Oil changed, spark plugs etc.

on average i buy 50-60 dollars a month in parts for outr 3 124's.... i usually spend some time every weekend doing a little something....mostly replacing easy rubber parts...
the best thing you can do is have a spare voltage regulator, OVP, and fuel pump relay. make sure you have a decent distributor cap, rotor, and wires after you change the plugs......

Thanks guys for the response, my last Benz was a 280SE 4.5 little out of touch on a few things, what is a ovp?? and yes he was quite the stickler for detail and scheduled maintenence.
However my Godmother says that the only thing that he did talk about was that is was burning more gas than usual and he never got it in to have it corrected. Wrt |

You would be surprised at how a lot things from the 4.5 will be somewhat similar to the 260e... 260e is probably a bit easier to maintain... but there is a lot of carry-over in the engineering process...
both cars don't have few electrical nightmares... pretty straightforward stuff. the OVP is the overvoltage protection relay.. it's a fail safe so you don't blow out other components.. however when it blows...it can cause some starting and idling issues.. it is really best to have a spare in my opinion...

That car will run forever, even with major problems. (I drove my 260 for about 5 years with a blown head gasket, without realizing it.)
Mechanical/Electrical issues to be mindful of are: OVP (already mentioned) Voltage Regulator (already mentioned) Most else will be fluid and rubber related, i.e.: Radiator Leaks PS Pump leaks Transmission leaks Belts and bushings Motor Mounts A remarkable work horse of a car.
