Ed, it's the 6AL. I also have the blaster SS coil which I'm going to need to adapt still to work with my car- I plan on modifying another coil wire to work with it since it only seems it comes with a male end on it and the MB coils are female. For now plugs are still at stock gap- I plan on trying the lowest gap MSD recommends for V8's .050 once the coil goes in. I'm using NGK BP5ES (I think thats what I bought) plugs.

For difference, the car idles smoother, sounds a bit different and 'seems' to have a bit more oomph on the low end after just doing the ignition module. I still have the EZL hooked up and using that for the pickup signal. I plan on finding a ABS connector in the junkyard to make my own harness to plug into the distributor lead wire.

Thanks John...

Might give it a try on my M103-12V TT....concern was the interface with the stock EZL..

Ok 95% done, new coil is in but I'm still using the EZL untill I can get the ABS connector plug I want to modilfy to work with the distributor pickup wire.

Put the coil in tonight, modified the end on the coil wire, regapped the plugs to .050 and fired it up to drive home. hard to tell if theres any increase, back end kept breaking loose on the wet roads

Just in from the first test of the season at Summit Point, minus the fact that it rained all freakin day. The car did extremely well- easily out performing my closest competition- a 1993 400E. Its hugging the curves and the new Toyo R888's were gripping awesome on the wet track. Only got a bit sideways once- a few other cars weren't so lucky and ended up in the wall. Videos to come shortly- anyone know a good conversion or editing software for MOV files?

i want your car.

its funny, all of the pictures where your car is lined up with exotics, it looks so out of place, "who put that car there"

but its still a sweet looking car. have fun with it.

More fun when you actually are able to walk away from said cars, up a winding canyon, or just on the Freeway.

What are you talking about? John's car is pretty exotic. What could possibly be more exotic than an SEC?!

What could be more exotic?

An SEC with lots of 'go faster' stickers on it that actually can go faster!

Going from where that car was last year to today is like going from the Wright Flyer to the F22 I just wish these things were true

a) I had 1/2 of John's mechanical talent

b) He also works on BMWs-- My 528e could be a cool autocrosser with a lot of set up work

c) I had the extra $$ to find my own 560 SEC and have him Heffernize it

well, the majority of uneducated Americans, who know not of the prowess of the 500 series, would not classify the 500SEC in the same class as a Lotus or a Lamborghini, well known exotics.

also, to the untrained eye, the 500SEC does not look fast, its a sleeper in traffic as it doesn't stand out as say a bright orange GT3.

but i, a fellow MB enthusiast, do know of the capabilities of Johns car and well respect it.

also, (wow i have bad grammar), i own a 190E 2.3-16, while not as much of a sleeper as a SEC, is a quick track car, but most people don't realize it, but i don't have much trouble convincing them.

John, can you tell if the MSD helped any?
Your efforts make me love my 500SEL even more.
If people only knew how well these things run they would be surprised as I am sure some of your competition found out.
GOOD SHOW, keep them coming.

Paul

Hey all, yeah its a fun car. I'm not going to sneak up on anyone with that exhaust though.
Monday at the track was fun, reluctanly only had to let one car pass- a turbo civic hatchback of all cars! that thing is crazy fast.

few more vids hosted here http://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y159/johnhef/Summit%20Point%204-20-09/

just a picture update, looks like I missed a few ones on here.

From the 2009 Deutsche Marque Concours:

and 2nd time I had to be towed home, leaking fuel line before the start of an autocross:

I managed to fix it and get back in the afternoon and pulled out a 2/10ths of a second win in my class
