Wind Vibration on 1997 E420

After having the oil changed on my 1997 E420 at about 65,000 miles, a wind noise started up at about 60-65 mph. The vibration is in the front pillar on the passenger side. It was really loud and at first I thought it was the moulding that goes down the rain channel, but that didn't seem to work.

The next time I changed the oil at about 70,000 miles the noise changed to be less noisy, but it still is quite prominent.

Could there be something in the air filter induction componants that are removed for an oil change that could be causing this in the pillar between the windshield and front passenger door?

Thanks for any suggestions or help.

JP

first, are you changing your oil or are you taking it to a service station? Because there arent any "air filter inductuctions" in that area. the filter is accessible down the pass side of the block. the only thing it could be after having an oil change down is that your incapsulation panel or "belly pan" is not secured properly and flapping as you drive. just shimmy under and inspect the panel to see if all the screws are there AND that they are secured to the subframe. sometimes one of those screws is left of and they will flap against the subframe giving you that noise. I hope that helps.

I have not changed the oil myself, I had it done at a service station. I will check for missing or loose screws though.

What I meant by "air induction" were all of the black plastic componants that cover the top of the engine. They took these off to get down into the engine compartment for access to the oil filter. Maybe that's the problem, they should only access the filter from below, not above.

also to think about:
problem may have popped up by chance at the same time of your oil change... and be unrelated to the lubrication service

good luck
